A teenager who was driven from New Jersey to Maryland, marched into the woods, gagged, and hacked to death with a machete at the direction of MS-13 — was found four months later in a shallow grave, according to Montgomery County prosecutors.
Now her perpetrators are facing justice.
In Montgomery County, a judge has convicted 24-year-old Iris Yudella Alonzo-Salgado for her role in the murder of 18-year-old Rosa Sanchez Merino, whose grisly death made national headlines.
Alonzo-Salgado is one of four charged in connection with the death of the teen in May 2023.

A Cedar Grove man was arrested after Clifton police found a machete, drugs packaged for sale, and thousands in cash inside his van, authorities said.

A 35-year-old Cliffwood man was convicted of first degree murder last month for fatally stabbing a Newark man with a machete, authorities announced Friday, April 11.
Terrance Bailey was found guilty for murdering Daniel Haas, Jr. on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II said.
Bailey and an accomplice pursued Haas while brandishing a firearm near 207 Cathedral Ct. in Newark, Stephens said. Bailey and the accomplice, who has not been identified, killed Haas with a machete, Stephens said.
