Thousands of workers in the Hudson Valley have been laid off amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Nearly a dozen companies in the Hudson Valley were forced to lay off or furlough more than 2,500 employees, according to information from the New York State Department of Labor’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN).
Employers in Westchester, Orange, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, Dutchess, and Orange counties all made filings, according to the Department of Labor.

Wallet Stolen At Darien YMCA Found At Stamford Mall Minus Hundreds In Cash, Police Say
A man who had his wallet stolen from the Darien YMCA had it returned later the same day by a Good Samaritan who found it at a mall, intact, but missing $200 in cash.
The incident took place around 11:50 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8, when the victim reported to Darien Police that their wallet had been stolen while taking a class at the YMCA, said Sgt. James Palmieri.
According to the victim, they had placed the wallet in a locker but failed to lock the locker. When he returned around 1230 p.m., his wallet was gone.
